Clare Hammond
Certified Play Therapist

I work with children who are dealing with bereavement, separation, anger, fear, anxiety and much more. Also supporting families to understand children's behaviour, re-connect and move forward together.

What is play therapy?

Play is a child's natural medium of expression, through play therapy they learn to make sense of what is going on in their lives both consciously and unconsciously.

"Clare was suggested to us through our daughter's school and we had never experienced or heard of play therapy before. Clare talked us as parents through what the sessions would entail and sought
understanding of the situation and our daughter's challenges. Clare formed an instant bond with our daughter and it quickly became apparent that a different style was exactly what she needed.

Our daughter's anxiety accelerated through lockdown so we asked if Clare would continue with her over zoom. Our daughter loved her sessions and despite the physical barriers, Clare still managed to work wonders with her through innovative games and play.

I can now say that our daughter is a different person. Her anxiety is under control and she has coping mechanisms when she feels worried. Clare normalised what our daughter was going through and as parents offered us reassurance that it was going to be ok. She offered us some reading to try and help us understand what was going on
in our daughters head and remove some of the emotion we were all feeling. I would not hesitate in recommending Clare and the play therapy she offers."

"The Play Therapy that Clare has provided has helped a number of our children who have very complex needs. Her work has enabled children to significantly improve their self-esteem, social skills and  ability to communicate their emotions in a more regulated way."

Working with Clare has really helped my daughter to manage her anxiety. She has enjoyed all of the sessions and it has made a notable difference to her behaviour - at school and at home. She’s now better at explaining when she is feeling worried and at using the things she’s learnt to help her manage her feelings.

And when I asked what she would say to another child who was feeling worried and thinking about coming to see you she said

I would tell them to go and see Clare because Clare has really helped me - I mean really helped me. And it was only after seeing Clare that I changed how I feel about my worries

"Clare came to work with one our most vulnerable and complex children.  He was experiencing extreme difficulties dealing with his emotions and would have multiple meltdowns a day.  This was having a hugely negative impact on everyone.  You would not believe the transformation that this child has gone through!  No meltdowns, he is playing with his peers, he is able to accept when he needs to tidy up and will even ask for some quiet time if he feels he is becoming frustrated.  The work that Clare did with this child has had a significant and long lasting impact on not only this childs play skills, but his emotional and social well-being both at school and home,  Thank you Clare, my classroom is a happier place because of your work.
